Life’s a circus. This one is intentional.

Once upon a warm summer week, the circus came to the Berkshires. Twelve families arrived at The Thyme with an intention to connect with nature and one another, and a curiosity to try a few things they’ve never done before.

Juggling would take on a new, lighter meaning for the parents. By day, the circus took shape. Families stepped into classes led by a pro instructor — learning balance, movement, trust and what happens when you say Yes.

As the weekend unfolded, practice turned into play. Play turned into something like confidence. And by the time the final performance arrived, it was no longer clear who was performing for whom. Kids beamed. At times, parents were completely lost, but they clapped anyway, because it wasn’t about the show. It was about the moment.

When the sun dipped, the circus shifted again. Costumes emerged. Music turned up. Kids joined the dance floor early, then drifted off, leaving parents to explore the other arts of the evening: movement, connection and the joy of a temple pulsing with visual art and sound.

Somewhere between the pajama party and the sweat lodge, between the sauna and ice plunge, between foraging walks and firelight, between the practical and the magical, it clicked:

Life is a circus.
Enjoy the show.

Questions ?

  • We came here to play. And our children are here to remind us of this.

This weekend is an opportunity to be inspired by their curiosity, and follow your own curiosities, too.

Play is fun, and sometimes it is learning in disguise.

It is also a moment to connect with other likeminded parents, and nurture all relationships: with our partners, children, new friends, and ourselves.

  • What’s Included

    3 nights / 4 days accommodation

9 chef-prepared meals made with love and local ingredients

Group nanny care (9 AM - 6PM): An extra set of eyes on the kids by our experienced child wranglers lending a helping hand throughout the days and evenings, and we request that during the day that at least 1 parent or personal nanny is with the child. During adult activities after 9pm, we will have a babysitter roaming the floors to listen for a child who might need their mom or dad. The nannies are no substitute for one-to-one childcare — should you wish to bring your own nanny, please let us know on the Join Us form and we will explore room availabilities for them.

    What’s Not Included

    • 10% local and state tax

    • Private nannycare

    • Massages

    • Alcohol. Please feel free to bring your own! We can store it for you in the back of the kitchen.

  • Imagine a spectrum with Burning Man on the left side and the Hotel du Cap, Antibes, on the right. Curiouser will be equidistant between center and far left. We will call this “Sensible Self Reliance.”

The Thyme seeks to give the feeling of home. It is not a 5-star luxury spa, and there are no concierges available. The rooms won’t be turned over daily. The linens and towels are yours throughout the weekend. Please hang your towels to dry them — but should you need more for any reason, contact us in the feed.

Please don’t hesitate to ask for whatever you need, just note that sometimes it might just be faster to do it yourself.

Make yourselves at home! Take what you need! Let’s work together!

  • The best experiences are ones where we start and end together. This helps to create a container in which magic can be created.

We request that everyone arrives in time for dinner and stays until brunch on Monday, so we can open and close the container as one.

Friday check-in is anytime after 1p. Dinner is at 7p, followed by an opening circle for parents at around 9pm (once the kids are asleep). We are requesting that everyone arrives in time for dinner if possible!

Last departures at 2p on Monday

  • Our home for the weekend will be The Thyme, an 85-acre property in the Berkshires that straddles the MA and CT borders. Check this location page for maps and directions.

  • You may receive a full refund up until 4 weeks before the event. After that date, we welcome you to transfer your booking to another approved member of our community.

  • The goal of the weekend is to spend time with our kids (during waking hours). To that end, we request that either 1 parent or a personal nanny is with your child(ren) throughout the day.

We will a few have child wranglers present at a ~5:1 ratio to provide additional support during the day, and to be present in around the accommodations at night (while parent programming is happening).

This is not a substitute for parenting or private 1-on-1 childcare — should you require additional support, please consider bringing a personal nanny for the weekend. We will provide additional accommodation for them based on availabilities for a contribution to cover food and expenses.

Our group nanny team is led by Jenny Aguas, and will be engaged with the children from 8a - 6p (may vary based on the schedule). Their role is to provide an extra layer of oversight for the kids, and to engage parents if their child needs them. They will be on break during the first 30 minutes of mealtimes. We request that parents feed their children.

Between 9p and midnight, we will have a babysitter available to keep an eye on the older kids who are still awake, as well as walk the halls of the lodge listening to hear if any sleeping children might be needing a parent during the adult night activities.

  • Be sure to check with weather forecast! Late May in The Berkshires is typically warm but can teeter back to “cooler” and there is always a chance of rain.

Below are items we recommend packing:

    • Bathing suits (adults) - we will explain

    • Warm & Waterproof clothing including shoes/boots to hike in

    • Water bottles

    • Special food items for your kids - we will have snacks, but if there are special things in particular that your children like, we have a communal fridge conveniently located nearby the rooms.

    • Costumes for kids & adults inspired by the weekend theme or inspired by imagination or inspired by…whatever. We will have a few items for the children if you don’t have anything

    • Bug spray. We have some on hand, but always good to bring some if you have it. We are deep in raw nature — ticks and mosquitos are unfortunately part of our lives in the Berkshires that time of year.

    • Indoor slippers or soft shoes - we have a shoes off policy in the lodge, and will be supplying slippers…but if you would be more comfortable in your own, please bring along

    • Portable crib. We have 2 Pack and Plays, available first come first serve.

    • Alcohol. If you would like to drink alcoholic beverages, feel free to bring some with you.

    • Imagination

    • Open heart

    • Good vibes

  • Before we dive into the magic, our first priority is creating a space that feels safe and manageable—physically and emotionally—for everyone. And while we love animals and are pet owners ourselves, adding potentially several dogs or cats in addition to the ~20 children and ~20 adults to our events adds complications.

For the comfort and safety of all guests — including children — pets and emotional support animals are generally not permitted. If you have a calm dog that fits in a handbag, please contact us to discuss.

We do welcome service animals as defined by the ADA: dogs individually trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability. If you plan to bring a service animal, please notify us in advance so we can make appropriate arrangements.

  • Massages by Susannah Miskell are available throughout the weekend. Sessions can be scheduled and billed directly with Susannah.

She is a Kelly-trained masseuse who offers somatic bodywork designed to support deep healing and relaxation. Her integrative approach blends therapeutic deep tissue techniques with gentle, nervous system-focused touch to release tension, restore balance, and promote overall well-being. She creates a safe, grounding space for guests to reconnect with their bodies, unwind stress, and experience profound restoration. We will provide a booking link separately.

  • You can put questions and requests in the group WhatsApp feed and we will try to respond quickly.

If you want to speak directly to someone, you can see anyone from the Curiouser team, or whatsapp or call Steven at +1-646-388-0954.

  • Yes of course! And coyotes, snakes, bobcats, deer… The Thyme is a natural habitas teeming with life. Humans are by far the most dangerous beings in the Berkshires, and these animals generally stay away from us.

  • Yes of course.

  • Our general statement is — you are in the wild at The Thyme. It is raw nature at its finest. It is important to be mindful, especially with the little ones. As stated previously, the group nannies are no substitute for 1-on-1 childcare. Should you want a personal nanny, we can recommend some in the local area.

    1. Open water — The Thyme has a large, unfenced pond, and a large stream running through the ravine.

    2. Ridge tops — The ravine hike ascends to steep areas

    3. Ticks — They are prevalent in this part of the country. Always good to do a tick check before bed.

    4. Animals — Bears, coyotes, snakes… the Berkshire mountains are their home. We don’t encounter problems apart from isolated dumpster diving incidents (our fault), but it’s important to know where you are. Given the time of year, the bears and snakes are in a deep sleep (to the envy of all us parents).

    5. Location awareness — The Thyme is 85-acres of heavily wooded forest, ravines and ridge tops. If you decide to venture off into nature, be aware of your directions. When in doubt, stick with the group!

    6. Weather: it’s always hard to predict weather in the Berkshires in May, but we will explore our curiosities and the magnificent nature no matter what. It is a good idea to check the forecast.

  • You can let people know in the whatsapp feed that you are looking for a ride. There is a Metro-North train that goes from NYC to Wassaic on the Harlem River Line. Check the MTA website for details.

The drive from Wassaic train station to The Thyme is approximately 25 minutes. Please contact us if you are looking for recommendations on cab companies in the area. Ubers are few and far between, so it is recommended that you arrange for a taxi ahead of time.

  • Love it! Co-creation is where the magic is. You need not be a professional to dive in. Please speak with Steve first, and we will help you bring your genius to life for the group!

  • The wifi network is The Thyme Guest.

    The password is: beherenow

  • There is a communal refrigerator located in the children’s playspace, accessible 24/7. There are also refrigerators in each lodge guest room.

  • Yes! Finally. 1 per room.

  • Unfortunately, we do not.

  • No, it’s true! In fact, we have an award certificate signed by the state of Massachusetts, substantiating this claim. We take great pride in our well water!

So, the great news is you can fill your glass or water bottles straight from the faucets anywhere at The Thyme. We encourage you to bring water bottles.
